Maximising Uptime: A Guide to Servicing Your Mecalac Dumper

mecalac dumper

Even the hardest-working piece of equipment needs to be serviced, and a vehicle such as a Mecalac dumper with its complex hydraulics needs to be serviced and taken care of to maximise its operating time, safety and overall lifespan.

Whilst each dumper will have its own specific service requirements as detailed in its operating manual, there are some general rules it is important to follow when it comes to servicing.

In this brief guide, we will cover your first service, what to cover with further services, and the checks and inspections you should undertake every time you use your Mecalac dumper.

Why Does The First Service Matter Most?

The first service is by far the most important, and should take place within the first month of use or at around 50 hours of logged use.

This first inspection is the most comprehensive, as it will involve an examination of all dumper components to ensure it is fit for purpose, legal to use and safe to operate.

In particular, the service will focus on inspecting:

This service will also check if parts need replacing and ensure that any replacement parts and their installation meet all relevant guidelines and regulations, and to detect any unusual wear patterns.

When Should Further Services Take Place?

In general, every 200 hours or four months of use should see further inspections of your dumper.

This focuses specifically on the parts of the machine most exposed to external damage or more prone to wear and tear, such as:

  • The undercarriage
  • The hydraulic systems
  • The electrical circuits
  • The engine

Further service must also still examine the overall condition of the machine to ensure that nothing has worn down to the point of needing further repairs and replacements.

What Should You Check Every Time You Use Your Mecalac Dumper?

  • Check the condition of control levers
  • Ensure that the engine bonnet closes properly
  • Check and replace any worn components and parts
  • Clear the intake and exhaust valves
  • Clean the pump compartment
  • Check electrical cables
  • Look for fuel leaks
  • Lubricate the rollers
