Fuel Efficiency Face-Off: How Modern SANY Excavators Cut Running Costs

Every penny counts when using plant machinery, and SANY has poured considerable amounts of its research and development budget into maximising efficiency to provide more power whilst also reducing running costs.

The main reason for this is that modern engine sensors and technologies have been developed which minimise wasted energy and therefore wasted fuel, allowing for tremendous savings without any changes from a user standpoint.

There are multiple innovations SANY have been at the forefront of, some of which have provided very tangible fuel-saving benefits. Here are some of the biggest and why they matter.

Dynamic Optimisation Intelligent Control System

One of SANY’s greatest innovations when it comes to fuel efficiency is found in their innovative power matching systems that connect the main engine, the hydraulic pump and valves, allowing for energy to be transferred from one part of the machine to another without too much wasted effort.

At the centre of this is their Dynamic Optimisation Intelligent Control System (DOMCS), a computer-driven power matching system that adjusts the hydraulic power use based on how the excavator is being used and maintains a stable flow of power.

This allows the engine to remain in its fuel economy mode whilst providing the level of power and response it needs proportionate to the load that it is carrying.

The result is high efficiency with low fuel consumption, potentially halving the amount of fuel used by a newer SANY excavator compared to an older model.

Hydraulic Power Recovery

Hydraulic arms, booms and other lifting components typically generate heat through resistance, but much like energy recovery systems and regenerative braking can turn what would otherwise be brake fade into electricity, this heat can be converted into additional energy.

These power recovery systems mean that less fuel is needed during lengthy operations than would previously be the case, saving you time and money.

Software-Driven Engine Management

Similar to engine mapping in a car, excavators have specialist engine tuning modes designed for optimal efficiency in certain tasks.
